Celebrating Easter in Prague

In this photo of a seller of Easter Eggs in Prague the street, the people, even the seller are quite dark, but the eggs couldn’t have brighter colours and they add light to the scene. That’s precisely what I like in festive holiday celebrations, the fact that they give us something to be happy about, bringing excitement and light to our daily routine.
When we visited the capital of the Czech Republic the weather was extremely cold and the sky full of grey clouds, but it was Easter and the streets, on the contrary, were laden with cheerful people. In the main squares of the city such as Wenceslas Square and Old Town Square, there were street markets offering handicrafts and food, specially nicely decorated Easter Eggs and a smooth delicious pastry with sugar on top called “trdlo”, that is definitely worth trying. People gathered there because of the warm happy atmosphere they found.
Synagogues and churches were also typical places to go to for celebration. We visited the Prague Jewish Quarter and the Old New Synagogue was impressive, a warm place full of soft light where you could really feel the weight of history. Indeed, the construction from the XIII century is the oldest synagogue in Europe. Once again a perfect place to share with others and celebrate.
Finally, the spontaneous street stands were the perfect excuse to avoid walking in the cold. The opportunity to cheer oneself by choosing the nicest Easter Egg to bring back home.
